Prost!

So I have been brewing since the summer of 2006. It has passed being a hobby, I love the time I spend brewing. In the last few years brewing has become part of what I am.

I spent a short stint with a small brewery and after a long hiatus from the world, things are starting to shape up toward a new revelation(revolution) in my brewing life. Come follow on the journey, I can't promise being heavily active but will try to keep posts interesting and informative.

A relatively unremarkable brew session, minus having no power due to Hurricane Irene just blowing through two days before. A simpler time of brewing. Beer finished a little high but still works, couple people saying the same, maybe something off in this batch of Marris Otter

IBU's are purely a guess, used dried hops from the garden, Hit our gravity but came up a little short on volume, I'm sure I left too much in the mash.  Remember when you are using adding a dry ingredient to the boil it doesn't get included with your mash weight.  Color looks darker, but you can't tell in the fermenter, either way is fine.

Brewing the snow after an October Nor'easter.  Starting to pay much more attention to process now, I think keeping this log is helping.  Awesome red color in the transfers but quickly turned black as soon as any real volume developed.  Fermentation isn't moving as vigorous as I like, was planning on cleaning this yeast for a barelywine but if its this slow that may change, I think may go back to Chico.  So fermentation seemed slow, but it was thorough about 80%, nothing smelled or tasted off in the sample.

A borrowed recipe, with a slightly bumped up hop character, a little out of style for a brown porter.
